Jennifer Alfano Wins Two Tricolors in Hunters at L.A. International Jumping Festival
Burbank, CA – September 25, 2006 – Jennifer Alfano of Buffalo, NY, made a trip to the West Coast last week to show two horses for trainer Archie Cox of Brookway Stables in Lakeview Terrace, CA. Alfano is the head rider and a trainer at SBS Farms, Inc. with Susie Schoellkopf. At the L.A. Jumping Festival on September 20-24, Alfano rode Clockwork for Old Oak Farm to the championship in the Regular Conformation Hunters and Quality Time for Laura Wasserman to the reserve championship in the Green Conformation Hunters.
On Clockwork, Alfano won five out of six classes in the division. It was a reunion for Alfano, who used to show Clockwork for his previous owner. “He was exactly the same as I remember,” Alfano said with a laugh. “I’ve always liked riding him.” Clockwork, an eight year old Warmblood gelding, also shows in the Small Junior Hunters with his current owner. Cox mentioned, “He’s a very consistent performing horse.”
Quality Time is a nine year old Warmblood gelding that has been with Cox for ten months. Alfano rode Quality Time to the win in two classes and two second place finishes. Quality Time shows in the Amateur-Owner Hunters with Wasserman. “He’s an extremely kind horse,” Cox commented, “and he’s definitely an eye-catcher.” Alfano added, “He was very quiet and easy. He’s a phenomenal jumper.”
Cox knew Alfano did not have horses showing this fall in the Conformation divisions at the Indoor fall circuit of shows, including Capital Challenge Horse Show, the Pennsylvania National Horse Show, and the Washington International Horse Show. “Jennifer is one of the best hunter riders in the country,” Cox explained. “I knew she didn’t have horses in the two divisions that I had these horses in. I thought it would be a great opportunity for her to show the horses here before they go to the Indoor finals.”
Of her experience in California, Alfano remarked, “It was really fun. It’s different out there in some ways, but still very much the same. I had a great time with Archie.” Cox added, “I think she quite enjoyed her short stay in California! She got a little bit of rest, had fun, and got experience with the horses.”
Alfano will compete with Quality Time and Clockwork at the three Indoor final shows in addition to showing horses for SBS Farms Inc. “I’m really excited,” she said of her new rides. “It’ll be great to have such nice horses in those divisions. They’ll have absolutely no problem competing there.” Cox said, “I hope we can continue to have success on the East Coast as well. Both horses are really good, competitive horses.”
SBS Farms Inc. will compete next at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD on September 30-October 8, 2006.
